GosuGamers was my first experience with esports journalism. I had just gotten into the competitive side of Counter-Strike and upon discovering GosuGamers, I immediately found their ad looking for voluntary writers. With zero professional experience, I tried my chances and was soon introduced to the CS:GO staff.
For the next eight months, I would be writing on a daily basis. A lot of news needed to be released, but I also dove into feature articles and opinion pieces, which gained high popularity on the site. My features regularly pulled over 500 reactions and over 10,000 reads - enormous figures for a first-time writer!
I would be writing predictions for the biggest tournaments and recap the regular leagues at the end of the week. Together with my editorial lead, we were basically running the CS:GO section on our own. Keep in mind that I was doing this in my free time!
Looking back, I definitely should have pressed for some form of pay, considering the huge amount of traction that my work was generating. In the end, however, this outlet (or rather the people working for it) paved the way for my first paid job.
Please don't cringe at the horrible graphics in some of those pieces. Don't laugh - back then I actually used PowerPoint to make most of the visuals for my news pieces. Well, times change...
Since my departure from GosuGamers, the site has received an overhaul and most pictures don't display correctly anymore. Please keep that in mind!
